Math Practice

We use a really great website at school to learn, practice, and reinforce math skills. It's called ixl.com. Your students each have a username and password to access the site. They can practice the skills that match our 3rd grade outcomes from school or from home!

Nature Center Visit

Kelly visited our classroom today with lots of information about turkeys. She shared a story full of turkey facts, and then the students played a game ro recall the facts. There was quite a competition in our classroom! The students were also able to observe and touch turkey parts, and use different tools to make different turkey calls.

Thanksgiving Turkey

Are you searching for a new recipe for your Thanksgiving turkey this year? You need to check out the 3rd graders' instructions. Good luck! :)

Camryn
Okay, now buy the turkey. Open the turkey and get two pounds of pepper and salt. Then close the turkey. Then put it in the oven at 11,000 degrees. Take it out when your house is halfway burnt.

Kevin
First you need raw turkey. Then you need to give it a shot in the head. Then put it in the oven and the temperature is 250 degrees. Wait 20 minutes. Then pull it out. Put a little wine on for flavor. Then you put some turkey oil inside of it and put some salt all around it. Then you have it.

Katie
If I had to cook turkey I would go catch a turkey. Then I would put it in a pan and put the stuffing in. Then put it in the oven at 30 degrees. Then take it out of the oven. I would wash my hands and then go set the table. Then I would call my family and tell them they can come over now. Then I would get a bowl of mints and set them on the table. I would cut the turkey. Then I would have a perfect dinner with my family as we talked and laughed.

Leny

I’m going to buy a turkey at Fareway. I will buy a good turkey, and I will sprinkle a little sugar on to make it sweet. I will put the seasoning on it, and I will put it in the oven. I will preheat the oven to 350 degrees. I will put the turkey in at 5:00 am, and it will take until 8:30 am. I will put more seasoning on, and at 9:00 am everybody will come to eat! Yum!

Crystal
I think you take the stuff out of the turkey because, well, I don’t know. Then you um, bake it in the oven for fourteen seconds. Then you stuff it with chicken and put on the gravy. Then you’re done. Just make sure you don’t heat it longer.

Abigail
I will catch my turkey and butcher it. I will put it in a bowl and cook it. It’s going to be 90 degrees. I’m going to cook it for 10 hours. When it’s done I will put it on a plate and put lettuce around it with cherry tomatoes, carrots, celery, and maybe some asparagus. That is how I will make my turkey.

Kelsey
You go to the store. Then you put the turkey in a pan and put it in the oven for about 3 hours. Then you can it out and make a pumpkin pie. Then you can have Thanksgiving dinner.

Skylar

Continents and Oceans

In social studies, the students are reviewing Earth's continents and oceans. They are researching information about a continent. Then they will create a PowerPoint slide to share their information with the class.

We thought this song was a catchy way to review the names of the seven continents!

Veterans Day

Be sure you attend the Veterans Day program if you're available. Our class put together a video called "Veterans Day in Three Words." We read books and watched a short video about Veterans Day. Then the kids brainstormed words related to veterans and Veterans Day. Once they had a list of words, they worked in groups to combine the words into three word phrases (based on the Good Morning American segment). Next the students planned a way to reveal their words, and we videotaped. Finally we used Windows Movie Maker to put the video clips together and set them to music. I am so proud of the ideas the kids came up with. They showed a lot of respect and citizenship when choosing their phrases!

Inventions!

The 3rd graders have been busy planning inventions. They have described them and will be designing them. Then we are going to make advertisements to sell them. Keep posted to see some of their fantastic ideas!
